The STEAM Investigative Process Roadmap
Have you ever had a problem you just couldn’t figure out?
Maybe it felt too big. Too confusing. Too many pieces.
Or maybe you had a great idea — but no clue how to actually make it happen.
Here’s the truth: nobody is born knowing how to solve problems.
It’s a skill.
And like any skill, you can learn it.
That’s what this roadmap teaches you.
What the SIP Roadmap Is
The STEAM Investigative Process (SIP) is a five-step roadmap for critical thinking. It’s the same framework real problem-solvers use — whether they know it or not.
Here are the five steps:
| Step | Question It Answers |
|---|---|
| Research | What is the problem and what caused it? |
| Design | How do I use what I have to solve it? |
| Plan | How can I use my time wisely to solve it? |
| Coordinate | Who are the champions that will help me? |
| Evaluate | What do I need to change to make this better? |
Every problem-solver follows this same path. Once you learn it, you’ll use it for the rest of your life.
Why This Matters (More Than You Think)
The difference between people who get stuck and people who figure things out is one thing: a process.
Anyone can panic when a problem gets big. But the people who actually solve things? They know how to slow down, think clearly, and work through it step by step.
Who This Is For
-
Students who want to think more clearly and solve problems better.
-
Homeschool families who want real-world learning, not busywork.
-
Teachers who want students to learn how to think, not just memorize.
-
Youth programs focused on leadership, critical thinking, or problem-solving
-
Anybody who’s ever felt stuck and thought, “I don’t know where to start.”
